HP LaserJet 5Si, 8000, 8100 Printers - Maintenance Kit Installation Instructions

In this document:

    HP LaserJet 5Si printers - Turn off the "PERFORM USER MAINTENANCE" message

    HP LaserJet 8000/8100 printers - Turn off the "PERFORM PRINTER MAINTENANCE" message

    HP LaserJet 8000/8100 printers - Reset "Pages Since Last Maintenance"

    Install the Maintenance Kit

HP LaserJet 5Si printers - Turn off the "PERFORM USER MAINTENANCE" message

  1. Press the MENUS button until the front panel reads Config Menu.
  2. Press the ITEM key until the display reads "Service Message = ON."
  3. Press the plus (+) button so that the display reads "Service Message = OFF."
  4. Press the SELECT key to put an asterisk next to the displayed characters.
  5. Press the ON LINE button to bring the printer back online.

    NOTE: The HP LaserJet 5Si printer will automatically reset the maintenance page count.

HP LaserJet 8000/8100 printers - Turn off the "PERFORM PRINTER MAINTENANCE" message

  1. Select the MENU key until the display reads "Configuration Menu."
  2. Select the ITEM key until the display reads "MAINTENANCE MESSAGE=ON."
  3. If the Message reads "MAINTENANCE MESSAGE=OFF", skip to Step 5 below.
  4. Select the -VALUE+ key once. (The display should read "MAINTENANCE MESSAGE=OFF".)
  5. Press the SELECT key to put an asterisk by the setting and save it.

HP LaserJet 8000/8100 printers - Reset "Pages Since Last Maintenance"

  1. Turn the printer off.
  2. Hold down the left side of the ITEM and VALUE keys at the same time.
  3. Turn the printer on.
  4. Wait for RESET MAINT\\COUNT to be displayed, and then release the keys.
  5. Allow the printer to initialize normally. (The display will read "READY.")

Install the Maintenance Kit

    Remove the old fuser

    1. Turn the power switch OFF (button OUT), unplug the power cord from the printer, and wait 20 minutes for the printer to cool.

    1. Open the left door. (If a paper handling output accessory is installed, reposition it so that the left door is fully accessible.)

    1. If the duplex unit is installed, remove it by pushing down on the green tab and sliding it out.

    1. Release the fuser by rotating the levers down.

    CAUTION: Two large blue levers release the fuser, not the gray levers. Release the fuser by rotating the levers down.

    1. Remove the fuser by lifting up on the finger handles slightly (see Figure 5), while pulling the fuser out of the printer.

    Install the new fuser

    1. Remove the two orange packing spacers (one on each side) from the new fuser.

    1. Slide the new fuser firmly into the printer.

    1. Ensure that the fuser is pushed into the printer beyond the "lip" of its supporting frame and is completely seated.

    1. Rotate both large, blue levers up to lock the fuser in place (repeat Step 3 if the levers do not rotate).

    1. Install the duplex unit if you removed it earlier, and then close the left door.

    Replace the feed and separation rollers

    1. Open Tray 2 and pull it out until it stops.

    1. Remove the tray by lifting the outer end while pulling the tray free of the printer. For Tray 3, repeat Steps 1 and 2 above.

    1. Access the feed and separation rollers through the empty paper tray slots (two rollers per tray, shaded in the callout of Figure 13).

    1. Pinch the protruding tabs and slide each roller off the shaft.

    1. In the kit, locate one of the bags containing the four rollers.

    1. Slide the new rollers onto each shaft until they click into place.

    1. Replace Tray 2 and Tray 3.

    Replace the transfer rollers

        1. Open the top cover and remove the toner cartridge.

    1. To prevent contaminating the printer or getting toner on your hands, wear the gloves provided in the kit.

    CAUTION: Do not touch the black foam roller.

    1. Grasp the blue gear on the left end of the transfer roller assembly and carefully lift it up, just enough to clear the retainer clip.

    1. Slide the transfer roller assembly to the left to release the shaft on the right end. Remove the transfer roller assembly.

    1. After removing the protective packaging, place the right end of the new transfer roller shaft into the hole (shown in Figure 21).

    1. Slide the roller assembly to the right until the blue gear on the left is in place.

    1. Press the left end of the shaft into the retainer clip.

    1. Press the metal and black plastic transfer guide down until it snaps into place. If the guide is not seated, paper jams will occur.

    1. Remove the protective gloves, replace the toner cartridge, and close the top cover door.

    Replace the separation and feed rollers (with 2000-sheet Input Tray)

    1. If the 2000-sheet Input Tray is attached, access the separation and feed rollers through the transfer unit door on the right side of the printer.

    1. Use two of the four rollers contained in the extra bag that came with your kit. The remaining two rollers, which are not required for the 2000-sheet Input Tray, are used only when the optional 2 x 500-sheet Input Tray is installed.

    1. Repeat Steps 4 and 6 under the section "Replace the feed and separation rollers."

    1. If the 2 x 500-sheet Input Tray is installed, access the separation tray rollers and feed rollers for Tray 4 and Tray 5 like Tray 2 and Tray 3. For the 2 x 500-sheet input tray, repeat steps 1 through 7 under "Replace the feed and separation rollers."
